This weekend will be the first big push for packing, today being just 10 days from Cassie's nightmare. The goal this weekend will be to pull out everything I'm giving to charity (mostly from the kitchen) and make a big dent on all the books going into storage. I still have to live here, though.

Meanwhile, in the news yesterday:

  • The Chicago Transit Authority finally broke ground on the 9-kilometer, $5.75 billion Red Line extension, after 60 years of proposals, more proposals, and Republican interference.
  • Josh Barro wishes Republicans would stop whining and commit themselves to real redistricting reform.
  • Radley Balko remarks on the results of a Penn law professor's successful interrogation of ChatGPT: "successful" in that he got ChatGPT to confess to a crime it obviously didn't commit.
  • The rise of Lt Gen Christopher LaNeve while Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth is purging some of the most competent and dedicated general and flag officers in the military has annoyed the remaining dedicated and competent officers.
  • Author John Scalzi cautions young writers that leaning too much on AI will not help them, for reasons they probably haven't considered.

Finally, ProPublica's Anna Clark digs into the misinformation and propaganda that people believe about solar power risks. I really don't understand people sometimes.
