Banging away with Copilot and Obsidian
AviationBusinessChicagoCorruptionElection 2026EuropePoliticsRepublican PartySoftwareUS PoliticsWorkWorld PoliticsMy boss gave me a mandate Monday to become proficient in some of the new tools he wants more of us to use, so I spend the afternoon doing exactly that. I wrote two new skills for interacting with Obsidian, refining them, and saying "whoa, that's cool!" out loud a few times. Right now my Obsidian vault has under 100 files, though; I'm interested to see what happens when it gets bigger.
Meanwhile, the crazy kept crazifying:
- Brian Beutler challenges conservatives on their "both-sides" claims by pointing out that both sides emphatically do not behave the same way.
- Adam Kinzinger is impressed with how new Hungarian Prime Minister Péter Magyar didn't waste time rooting out corruption after taking office this week.
- And why did Hungary vote Orbán out? Maybe they got sick of all the corruption that autocracies always serve?
- Guess who wins when autocrats take on faith leaders...
- Seva Gutinsky warns that the incels are taking over, despite the self-limiting nature of people whose personalities are better birth control than vasectomies.
- Jeff Maurer wonders why BlueSky still exists.
And finally, in what I can only hope is United Airlines CEO Scott Kirby just trolling the shit out of us, news outlets have picked up a rumor that United and American are considering a merger. Crain's reports,
It’s not clear how serious Kirby is about a possible merger with his former employer, Fort Worth, Texas-based American. Bloomberg and Reuters reported Monday that Kirby had mentioned the idea to President Donald Trump during a meeting in February to discuss revamping Dulles Airport, a United hub.
It’s also not clear that the two airlines are engaged in formal talks. The carriers, which are scheduled to report earnings next week, declined to comment. The Chicago Department of Aviation also declined to comment.
Aviation analysts are skeptical that a merger of the nation’s second- and third-largest carriers by revenue behind Delta would get regulatory approval.
What scares me, though, is that the current departments of Justice and Transportation have such thorough corruption, like every other part of the OAFPOTUS administration, that they might approve this ungodly conglomeration anyway. For the right price, of course. The resulting abomination would be the largest airline in the world by far, and would so overwhelm Delta and Southwest as to become a de facto monopoly here in the US.
I don't have the brain space to worry about that right now. I'm just putting it here for posterity, while the idea floats out of Kirby's head forever. I hope.
